LOS ANGELES, CA—The Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) premiers the Los Angeles Healthcare Awards on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the California Club, to recognize individuals and institutions for their exemplary contributions to improving access to quality healthcare in Los Angeles. Proceeds will help support the Patient Care Foundation of Los Angeles County Medical Student Scholarship Program to help cultivate the next generation of physicians who will practice medicine in Los Angeles County.

“LACMA takes great pride in recognizing Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas as the Healthcare Champion of the Year for his incomparable leadership in providing Los Angeles’ most underserved communities with access to quality healthcare and state-of-the-art healthcare facilities,” said Dr. Samuel Fink, LACMA President.

“Supervisor Ridley-Thomas has made healthcare a priority. He is improving the County’s healthcare infrastructure in time to support an expansion of 500,000 additional County residents who will be eligible for healthcare through the Affordable Care Act by 2014. His contribution to healthcare will benefit Los Angeles County residents for generations,” added Rocky Delgadillo, LACMA Chief Executive Officer.

Other awards will recognize physicians for leadership in their profession, and innovation in technology, education, community service and healthcare facilities.

LACMA is a professional medical association representing over 6,000 dedicated physicians. For more than 100 years, LACMA has been at the forefront of current medicine providing leadership and innovation in healthcare and fosters optimal collaborations among physicians, patients and the community through the Patient Care Foundation of Los Angeles County.

The Patient Care Foundation is a charitable organization that serves as a link between physicians and the community. Its mission is to impact the quality of life of all patients in Los Angeles County by expanding the pool of medical professionals who practice medicine in underserved communities.
