About

The Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) is a professional association representing physicians in every medical specialty and practice.  For more than 100 years, LACMA has been at the forefront of current medicine, ensuring that its members are represented in the areas of public policy, government and community relations.  LACMA is an organization of dedicated, passionate physicians who advocate quality healthcare for all patients and serve the professional needs of its members.

Through its advocacy efforts in both Los Angeles County and partnering with the California Medical Association, LACMA physician leaders and staff strive toward a common goal – Enable physicians to spend more time treating patients and less time carrying out the challenges of managing a practice in an ever-changing and challenging healthcare industry.

The Los Angeles County Medical Association leads a unified healthcare front by fostering optimal collaborations among physicians, patients and the community.  To this end, LACMA established the Patient Care Foundation of Los Angeles County (Foundation) in June 2008.

The Foundation is the charitable arm of LACMA that serves as a link between physicians and the community.  The Foundation champions community opportunities and has a tremendous commitment to impact the quality of life of all patients in Los Angeles County by expanding the pool of medical professionals who attend to underserved populations.

The Affordable Care Act and California’s 1115 Waiver will allow an estimated 500,000 additional Los Angeles County residents to qualify for medical insurance by 2014.  This significant, immediate expansion of newly eligible patients will strain the capacity of the Los Angeles healthcare system.  Compound the expansion of patients with physician attrition; Los Angeles County will be faced with a shortage of doctors.

At no time is the work of the Foundation more important than ever.  Its commitment to provide Medical School Scholarships to medical students committed to practice medicine in Los Angeles County will make our communities a healthier place in which to live and work.
